Young people today have cell phones, devices, apps, gaming, web browsers, and social media at their fingertips and at earlier ages than ever before. Preparing children for sexual health and safety is more than trying to block or limit access. It’s about engaging them early in conversations that build their awareness, critical thinking, autonomy, and informed decision-making around the body, relationships, consent, and sex.
This workshop walks parents and caring adults through the strategies that support safer device usage and open talks, at every age and stage, about online porn and sexually explicit media. Participants will learn:
- how to take a sex-positive vs. shame-based approach to porn conversations
- when to begin the talks (earlier than parents may think)
- what to say, to both kids who have and who have not seen sexually explicit media
- top resources to support the talks
- Facilitated by renowned sexuality educator and bestselling author, Melissa Carnagey, this live interactive workshop provides the strategies, effective language, and resources to support families in building media and porn literacy within childhood.
This session is great for adults who prefer to learn in community alongside other caring adults. All registrants receive a playback recording to access for up to 30 days following the live workshop as well as a companion guide with reflective exercises, a porn talks cheat sheet, and resources curated by Sex Positive Families.
